I went to bed at 8:30pm last night. Rock 'n' roll!! And had a bizarre dream about trying to ask for milkshakes in Spanish and them bringing me a huge yellow poodle instead (I WANTED A BLUE MILKSHAKE, DAMN IT). Yehhh.
I'm off to the cinema again tonight with Jen to see ... Sherlock Holmes. Again. *shrug*
Oh, and I did a thingy to see how popular my horses' names were! Pepsi is common (this made me sad) at 750 ponies with her name. But there are only 153 Beatrices! :P Then I decided to see if there were any Sari ponies, and apparantly there are 26. I guess I didn't have anything better to do.
Today's 30 things in 30 days is Day 21 → A recipe. My cooking skills are minimal to say the least (my favourite meal: put bread under the grill, toast one side. Half toast the other side, then butter it, then put it back under the grill for a few moments. Open a tin of mackeral or sardine fillets, put them on toast, make a sandwhich, eat). S'all good.
BUT zsazsaroar has rescued me by gifting me with the manga cookbook last night! However, I haven't had a chance to make use of it yet, so I will link back here (with pictures) when I make my first gourmet cuisine ... haha.

Four things:
1. Met up with zsazsaroar and pinkkatie86 today, hurrah. <3 Too long without seeing my lovelys! Steph bought me Turkish Delight and a fantastic manga cookbook, which is AWESOME and I am so trying out some of the recipes asap. Oh, and btw, dreamaria: there's a recipe in it to make "hatchlings". I thought of you. ;)
2. Have just discovered Månegarm, simply because someone said they were for fans of WINDIR (lovelovelove) and Finntroll (and also Fjoergyn, Falkenbach, Heidevolk, Svartby, Glittertind AND Equilibrium according to LastFM ... all of which are bands I love very muchly).
3. Some actual crazies over on NaNoWriMo are hosting a "6 novels in 6 months" thing for 2010 - and I think I may just take part, as a sort of News Years resolution to get me writing more. I just want to get Somnium finished and published and then ... well I can crawl into a hole and die or something, haha, I don't care.
4. I'm going to bed after this. I don't know what's wrong with me, I just crashed after work; I sat down in front of the TV and didn't move at all for 3 hours until Steph rang to say she'd be round in an hour, and I figured I should probably take a shower. This is not like me at all. I'm not sleepy, I just have no energy. Meh. 3 more days of work, then 3 off.
Today's 30 things in 30 days is Day 20 → A hobby of yours, which is another difficult one because I have a lot of hobbies.

Oh, my. I think it's time to act humble and swallow my pride, because although I still maintain that Jeremy Brett is the definitive Holmes, and that no one could better him ... I have to admit that the new Guy Ritchie film is fantastic. Wow. Watson was portrayed brilliantly! The interaction between Holmes and Watson was great! Before seeing the film, I scoffed at claims by Ritchie and Downey Jr. that they'd stuck very closely to the original canon; but they really did when it came to the characters (apart from replacing Holmes' drug abuse with alcohol abuse. That was a bit random. Oh, and I didn't like him randomly fighting at the beginning, either).
The plot and story was a bit wobbly, and nothing was in chronological order, but I don't actually care: my verdict of the film rests solely on the characters, as I was more anxious about what they'd done to my beloved Holmes, and I can safely say that he was in good hands. Well done, Mr Downey Jr. You may not be the Holmes, but I will accept that you are a Holmes.
Watson (irritably, as Holmes pokes a riding crop at him): "Don't put that in my face." Holmes: "It's not in your face. It's in my hand."

The best thing about having to get up at 5am for the past two days in a row: as I don't start work until 7am tomorrow and Monday, I'll technically be having an hours lie-in. And as I won't be starting work until 8am on Tuesday, that's a two hour lie-in. Huzzah! :D
This year, my news years resolution is to be more positive. ;)
Today's 30 things in 30 days is another Day 18 → Whatever tickles your fancy ( mazathemonster: MY FANCY HAS BEEN TICKLED. Has yours? XD). So I'm going to share a 2009 collage I made with a Facebook app, and a music shuffle survey. Because I can.
( Picture and survey )
And on a music related note: when I was in Germany, I picked up a Goth music magazine. I was over the freakin' moon to discover that Erben der Schöpfung and Fjoergyn have just released new albums. However - I can't find them anywhere! I know there's no way they'll be in the shops over here, so I checked out Amazon, Play and eBay. No result. The albums I'm looking for are called "Jahreszeiten" (Fjoergyn) and "Narben der Zeit" (Erben). Any idea where I can track them down? I'd rather pay for them then download a ripped CD, as I think they're both fantastic, under-appreciated bands and I want to show my support for their excellent music.
EDIT: OH MY GOD FJOERGYN ARE PLAYING AT THE PURPLE TURTLE IN CAMDEN ON 7TH APRIL. Who wants to come with me?! If I get to hear "Das Leid des Einhorn" live (proof that Unicorns are black metal), I might just implode with happiness. Tickets don't seem to be on sale yet ... hmm. Maybe I can pick up their album at the gig, lol.
EDIT 2: I went to Erben's homepage and have found the album there. The English link on Fjoergyn's doesn't seem to be working, and my German isn't good enough for me to want to part with money when I'm not certain what's happening!
EDIT 3: ARGH. I went through the checkout to get Erben's CD, and was asked to choose my postage. Swiss - which listed things like Urgent postage, and was between €30-60 - and German, which seemed to be the standard post, and was €16.50. The CD itself was €15 and I assumed that €16.50 was the total including P&P - but no, turns out it would cost me €16.50 POSTAGE!! That's a total of €31.50 just for a 9 track CD!!! IT'S ONLY COMING FROM LIECHTENSTEIN, WHAT THE HELL.

Festive cheer from Pepsi.

The story behind that shot: for Christmas, I bought Pepsi "rhythm beads" (which are basically necklaces for horses, with bells on. Literally). First, she was scared of them. Then she tolerated them. And then, because I was following her around taking photos of her in them instead of feeding her, she fucking hated them. And told me so, in no uncertain terms, by chasing me around the paddock with her ears flat and teeth bared.
And the irony of it? Not only are rhythm beads supposed to be a calming influence on horses, but I picked the green ones - which are supposed to promote a feeling of tranquility. New age horsemanship, how I love thee. ;)
Here she is wearing them nicely, before she tried to kill me, and one more - where you can juuust about start to see her patience wearing thin...
( 30 things in 30 days - An art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.) )
Anyway. Oh, I stumbled across this picture randomly - When Donkeys Go Bad! Wow! I don't think I've ever seen donkeys fighting before. :S Beware if you decide to flick through the other images on the slideshow, though. There's one photo of a horse being struck by a rally car, and I clicked on it without realising what it was. Fuck me. Not something I ever want to see again.

Weird: I was alone in the stables this evening and, having finished everything for the night, I was switching off the lights and fencing. I was literally about to turn the radio off too when, without any warning or introduction, they suddenly started playing Queen's Don't Stop Me Now. This was Richard's 'happy' song, lol. So I had to stop and sing along; Bea and P were trying to eat their dinners, I don't think they enjoyed being serenaded while they ate. ;)
Anyway.
Today's 30 things in 30 days is Day 16 → A song that makes you cry (or nearly). Hm. I have a lot of songs that make me sad - in fact I have a little collection of them, as I use them to bring me down when I have to write a sad scene in a story or something. LOL. I am a freak. But only one can bring me close to tears (though it doesn't make me cry).

...Yeh, happy Christmas everyone. :P DOWNER, MUCH. I'm up at 5am for work tomorrow, so I best get some sleep. Guh. I'll be glad when it's over.

Hurrah - I have finally, finally finished reading Robert Louis Stevenson's The Black Arrow. Finally! It must have taken me about two months to read it which is a hell of a long time for me, even when you take into account the fact that I only read during my breaks at work. I'm usually done with a book that size in 2 weeks, if that.
Although it was only written in 1888, the story itself is set roughly 400 years earlier during the War Of The Roses, and he's changed his writing style a little to fit in with this. I'm pretty sure it was the sentence structure that caused me to struggle, although I understood all the words used (though I do admit to a giggle at this line: "Close behind, in the most radiant toilet, followed the bridegroom". Up until the early 1900's 'toilet' was used to mean presentation, i.e. of washing yourself and dressing smartly, but I do like the idea of the bridegroom arriving in an actual toilet).
I love me some 19th century lit. <3 <3
( 30 things in 30 days - A fan-fic )
P.S. In The Black Arrow, we are introduced to a young Duke of Gloucester - the man who would become Richard III. In a film adaptation (which I have yet to track down, so Wiki might be lying...), Richard III is played by Basil Rathbone - aka the actor most famous for playing Sherlock Holmes. HAHAH. Everything comes together! *geeks*
Edit: Things I had to share - 1) did anyone see the photos from the Yule celebrations at Stonehenge? Gorgeous. 2) I know what David Tennant's last words are as the Tenth Doctor! I'd tell you, but might be accused of giving spoilers...

Oh my lord. Babysitting a slumber party is definately on my list of Bad Things (particularly when one of the little cherubs empties a can of deoderant spray into the bedroom; my squished and asthmatic lungs just about packed in). However, being paid 25 squids, walking home through a deserted village - across glistening frosty snow - while listening to SuidAkra, and rewarding oneself with a can of Southern Comfort ... very much on my Good Things list. <3
Today's 30 things in 30 days is Day 14 → A non-fictional book. For my work's Secret Santa, I received a fantastic book called Ripley's Believe It Or Not. It's full of fantastic, weird facts, many of which are quite morbid. This is very much to my taste.
( Some random factoids - mainly concering the animal kingdom, as these are my favourite! )

In other news: - it's snowing again, yaaaayy! Or at least, it was snowing when I left the stables a couple of hours ago. - Beatrice, you'll be glad to hear, has fully recovered. :P Poor mare. To be fair to her, she is getting on a bit and after spending 2 hours slogging through sand and surf, plenty of cantering and around 4 hours of travelling time would be enough to knacker anyone out. She had stable stains on her so I presume she had a good sleep! - Pepsi hates me because I gave her a smack, as she tried to BITE MY FACE OFF (again) and kick me. Why? Because Beatrice looked at her funny. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH ME AT ALL. I love that mare, but my gods, she's a pain in the arse sometimes.

OH NO. I've only just discovered that there was a theatre production of Moonfleet, touring the UK this year! Their last date was December the 12th!! >_< This makes me very sad. Oh fuckmonkeys. :(

By a lucky coinkidink, today's 30 things in 30 days is Day 12 → Whatever tickles your fancy - and my fancy is currently tickled (that sound dodgy to everyone else, right?) by showing you todays SNOW BEACH SHIRE PHOTOS WHOOOOO! If you haven't already seen them on Facey (although these ones have captions). I'm not sharing all 80 of them here, if you want to see the lot go check out my Facebook. T'anks. Oh, and please excuse my atrocious position and deplorable lack of riding skills. It was cold. I couldn't feel any part of my body. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

( I know us English have a reputation for being eccentric, but really ... the beach in December? )
Poor old Bea was absoloutly knackered by the time we got her home. We unloaded her at the bottom of the drive, as it was too icy to risk trying to get the lorry up there, and she was quite happy and forward going as I led her up to the stable yard ... but as soon as we reached her stable door, she just stopped, put her head down, leant her forehead against the door and refused to budge!
I put her in the stable and bed down around her, and the poor old girl was just standing there with her head nodding, her eyes half-closed, and she kept trying to rest two legs at the same time. XD She was too tired to even bother with her dinner or hay. :S Hopefully, after a good night's rest on a thick, warm bed of straw, she'll be back to her usual self.

Hahahaa. Three buckets of water, one box of soap flakes, one bar of soap, one ice-rink-of-death stable yard, ten frostbitten fingers, one bemused Shire horse and one hairdryer later ... and Beatrice has snowflake-white feathers for tomorrows escapades. XD
In other news, my Miri figurine came in the post today!!! I thought it was my eBay order (I was on eBay because I was trying to find an Altaïr model for my brother; I could not find Altaïr, so I bought myself a cuddly lynx instead. Go figure), but then I realised ... and ran around the house with the bubble-wrapped Miri in my hands, yelling "OH MY GOD IT'S MIRI IT'S MIRI IT'S MIRIIIII!". For those who missed my obsessing for the past few months, I commissioned the über-talented Indigo Ocean to make me a model of my OC, Miri. <3 Here he is (my front porch seems to have escaped all signs of snow and winter; how curious):

Ah dear. Oh yes: so as I mentioned in my locked post, mum and I went to Olympia today. We were doing some shopping in the retail village afterwards, and stopped at a stand selling cakes and pastries. I realised that the male stall holder was staring at me, and when I looked at him he threw me the horns and went "SATAAAAAN!". I just grinned good-humouredly; I was wearing my Gorgoroth hoody with the inverted pentagram, and I assumed that he was just taking the piss out of me. Then, as we were buying our food, he asks about my top and I told him the band. He said he hadn't heard of them, and did they sound like Dimmu Borgir or Burzum? He got really excited when he realised I'd heard of Burzum, because apparantly no one in this country knows who they are (he was Polish). :P All the horsey folk were giving us really nasty looks...
In other news, I finally have my LastFM account back. It is here: http://www.last.fm/user/kittywinter
Oh - and Equilibrium went down quite well at the Christmas party, except I heard people discussing it afterwards and they said it "sounded like Pendulum". WHAT.
